Jennifer Ellison-Pulido is a lifelong artist, developing a distinctive style at an early age that has endured throughout all of her works - both two and three-dimensional. Her art is inspired by her love of nature, science, and philosophy. She is inspired by thoughts that contrast the ideas of unfeeling, concrete science next to the ideas of the playful infinite imagination that all humans innately possess in childhood. To this day, Pulido prefers to spend her time immersed in nature - such as observing, documenting, and creating a habitat for the native fauna in her backyard.
Her growing fascination with science during college began to shift her artwork from representational studies of nature, to sculptural “machines” that allow the viewer to ask childlike questions about science and existence. Despite earning her BFA in Studio Art at SHSU in 2013, Pulido went on to follow her passion and teach middle school Science in the North Houston area for 6 years.
She maintained an art studio at BOX 13 ArtSpace in Houston’s East End, but struggled to balance work life with art life and produced very little work for several years. Her art took further pause after shifting focus to marriage and motherhood - marrying Victor Pulido in 2017, then having children Amelia Rose in 2019 and Vera Violet in 2021.
Realizing art was essential to realizing her full identity - Jennifer Pulido converted the dining room in her house to a kid-friendly home studio, and it was as if 10 years of art ideas all wanted to simultaneously materialize into her first painting of 2025 - “The Mind as a Nomad.” The painting is steeped in symbolism involving everything from existential dread, climate change, parenthood struggles, the political landscape, and mental health. This painting is expected to be the beginning of a series of works in the same vein - focusing on deep thoughts of humanity, existence, and our duty to heal and preserve nature.
